Kim wants us to see her as a hands-on, "intermediate-strict" mom who values family dinners and bedtime stories over the sheer scale of her household staff.
The internet is doing the math: Five nannies for four kids? That's more staff than some small businesses. Yet Kim insists she feels "alone" at 3 AM when the kids are kicking and crying.
Kim told the Sunday Times Style she has five nannies on rotation. She previously admitted on the "What's in the Winkler" podcast that she feels she is "basically raising four kids by [herself]."
It is hard to sympathize with the "alone" narrative when your childcare ratio is 1.25 nannies per child, but Kim is clearly trying to humanize the billionaire mom experience.
Kim Kardashian just dropped a stat that has the entire internet doing double takes. In a new profile for the Sunday Times’ Style Magazine, the 45-year-old Skims founder revealed that she employs five nannies to help care for the four children she shares with her ex-husband, Kanye West. That’s right, the household staffing ratio is officially higher than the number of kids.
North is 13, Saint is 10, Chicago is 8, and Psalm is 7. With that many little humans running around Calabasas, you’d think five adults on rotation would make things manageable, but Kim is framing it differently. Despite the army of help, Kardashian insists she remains the primary caregiver in the trenches.
She made sure to emphasize that she personally takes the kids to and from school and sits down for family dinner every single night. "I think I am an intermediate-strict parent," she told the outlet, describing herself as "extremely patient and loving." She even admitted that she still lets one of her kids sleep in her bed when they want and reads books with them every night. It’s a curated image of grounded motherhood, but it clashes hard with the reality of having a full-time nanny brigade.
The drama really kicks in when you look at her previous comments. Back in 2024, on the "What's in the Winkler" podcast, Kim admitted she feels "alone" in raising her kids. She acknowledged having "great support systems," but claimed it gets difficult in the middle of the night when her kids are sleeping in her bed and are "kicking" and "crying." She argued that people judge her because they think, "Oh, but you have the resources to have nannies and to have help," but she insisted she was "basically raising four kids by [herself]." One has to wonder if the nannies are allowed in the bedroom during those crying sessions, or if Kim insists on solo night duty even with a full staff on payroll.
On the co-parenting front, Kim said she and West, 49, have "better communication" regarding their oldest, North, who is now 13 and embarking on a solo music career. "We make sure we’re aligned and that she’s in projects that we both approve," Kim explained. This is a notable shift given the tumultuous history since their 2022 divorce.
West, who married Bianca Censori in December 2022, previously clashed with Kim over her "main provider" comments, so this new era of alignment on North’s career is a major update. Meanwhile, Kim’s life is packed beyond the childcare chaos. She is juggling a new relationship with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, filming the second season of Ryan Murphy’s "All’s Fair" series, and still trying to pass the bar exam after multiple failed attempts.
She even paused her law studies to focus on production projects. It is a lot for one person, but with five nannies on the clock, you have to question what exactly "raising them by myself" means in the Kardashian-West lexicon.
