The Spin

The filmmakers frame this as a profound exploration of belonging and love in a disparate world, highlighting the 'inimitable' talents of their leads.

The Tea

Insiders suggest this is a savvy move for Studiocanal to reunite with Working Title after 'Pressure,' leveraging the massive heat O'Connell and A'zion currently hold.

The Receipts

Production begins in Canada in November 2026. The film is fully financed by Studiocanal with co-financing from Film4. O'Connell recently starred in 'Ink,' which opened Venice.

The Last Byte

This is the kind of indie darling casting that turns into an awards season juggernaut; keep your eye on this one.

In a move that screams high-caliber indie prestige, Studiocanal and Working Title have secured Jack O’Connell and Odessa A’zion to lead “The End of the World as We Know It.” The film marks the feature debut for Ross White and Tom Berkeley, the duo who took home the Oscar for Best Live Action Short for “An Irish Goodbye” in 2023. The project pairs two of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents in a narrative described as an “unlikely adventure in truth and love,” centering on two star-crossed loners embarking on an epic pilgrimage to prove the earth is flat.

The casting coup here is undeniable. O’Connell, fresh off his BAFTA win for “Ink,” is currently riding a career highpoint with major blockades in his future, including John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place Part III” and “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.” Meanwhile, Odessa A’zion, who broke out in “Marty Supreme,” has quickly become a fixture in prestige television and film, with roles lined up in Rachel Sennott’s HBO series “I Love LA” and Justine Triet’s upcoming comedy “Fonda.” Securing both actors for a debut feature is a testament to the strength of the script and the pedigree of the producing team, which includes Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title and Olivier Kaempfer for Parkville Pictures.

Behind the scenes, the financial structure is robust. Studiocanal is fully financing the production, with Film4 co-financing and executive producing. The film is set to begin production in Canada this coming November.

For Studiocanal, this deal represents a strategic reunion with Working Title following the recent global release of “Pressure.” The short film “An Irish Goodbye,” which launched White and Berkeley’s careers, was a smash hit on the festival circuit, playing in over 60 international festivals and sweeping the awards season with wins at the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and IFTAs. The filmmakers expressed intense gratitude for the opportunity to work with such distinguished talent.

“We feel intensely lucky to have the inimitable Jack O’Connell and Odessa A’zion bringing these star-crossed loners to life,” Berkeley and White said in a statement. They emphasized that the story speaks to a “collective search for meaning, belonging and love in an increasingly disparate world.” With worldwide sales handled by Studiocanal and theatrical releases planned for the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand, this film is positioned for maximum international visibility.
