The Spin

It’s not a celebrity brawl; it’s scripted drama. Santos frames the Brooklyn appearance as a necessary plot device for Andrea’s deepening backstory.

The Tea

Fans were confused seeing Kayce Dutton in Williamsburg. Santos admitted she filmed Luke arriving in costume because the visual of 'Kayce in Brooklyn' was too good to pass up.

The Receipts

Season 2 episode count increased from 13 to 20. Santos' 10-year-old daughter played young Andrea. Filming took place in Williamsburg, Manhattan.

The Last Byte

The fight scene was pure fiction, but the family casting and expanded season length signal CBS is betting big on Andrea’s arc.

If you caught the set photos of Luke Grimes throwing punches in New York City while dressed as Kayce Dutton, you were right to be confused. Why is the ranch hand from Texas suddenly brawling in Brooklyn? Marshals star Ash Santos stepped in to clear the air, offering exclusive context on the bizarre visual. "With no context, why is Kayce Dutton in Brooklyn?" Santos, 33, laughed while explaining to Us Weekly that the scene was scripted. The move from Utah to the East Coast was intentional, driven by the plot involving her character, Andrea. "We actually were here in New York because we filmed scenes in New York for Andrea and Kayce ended up coming with her," she clarified, putting the rumors of an off-screen altercation to rest. The drama behind the scenes was actually quite charming. Santos recalled the first day of filming in Williamsburg, describing the surreal moment Luke stepped out of the van in full Kayce Dutton costume against the Manhattan skyline. "I literally just start filming him because I’m like, 'What do you mean Kayce Dutton is in Brooklyn?' It was amazing," she said. The confusion among onlookers and fans alike was palpable, but for the cast, it was a unique filming experience. This brief relocation served a specific narrative purpose, tying Kayce’s presence directly to Andrea’s storyline rather than random celebrity chaos. Beyond the location shift, Santos teased that Season 2 goes "so much deeper" into Andrea’s past. The storyline revolves around the death of her father, previously stated to have died in the line of duty. However, new revelations suggest a conspiracy. "In the case regarding her father, she was told this entire time that it was something specific that happened and then it turns out that it was something completely different," Santos explained. This pivot allows for a more introspective arc, with the episode count increasing from 13 to 20 to give the character more breathing room. In a twist of Hollywood nepotism that actually feels sweet, Santos’ 10-year-old daughter joined the cast to play a younger version of Andrea. "Coincidentally enough, my 10-year-old daughter came in to play the younger me. So that was really special for us," she shared. The young actress even requested lines while getting her hair done with butterfly clips, a callback to Santos' own childhood. With Marshals airing Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, fans can expect this expanded, family-inclusive season to deliver the emotional payoff the showrunners are promising.
