The Last Byte

The Sussexes’ 'quiet' escape is anything but quiet, as Meghan’s long-standing boundary with her father is violently tested by new, harrowing allegations.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly jetted out of the U.K., taking their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to stay with close friends overseas. This sudden retreat comes amid a fresh, ugly scandal involving Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., who is under investigation for allegedly possessing child sex abuse material. According to Hello!, the couple is seeking refuge with friends to escape the media glare, but sources indicate the trip was already planned as a mental health break before the latest headlines hit.

The drama erupted on Thursday, October 22, when Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, claimed he discovered a cache of CSAM in boxes at his father’s home in the Philippines. Thomas Jr., who served as a caregiver for the 82-year-old after his stroke in 2022, told The Sun he was 'horrified' and felt he had 'no option but to report my dad.' He has since cut ties, stating he will never speak to his father again unless called to testify.

The allegations have sent shockwaves through the family, forcing Meghan, who has been estranged from her father since May 2018, to break her silence once more. Meghan’s reaction has been visceral. An unnamed friend told Hello! that the Duchess is 'really, really upset,' often looking at her daughter Lilibet in tears.

'She keeps on looking at Lili and she’s in tears, and thinking about all the children, the alleged victims,' the source said, describing the situation as 'devastating.' Despite having 'decided a while ago' to disconnect from the media for her own well-being, the friend admitted it is now 'nearly impossible to block out the noise,' with Meghan receiving countless messages of sympathy from friends in the U.K. and beyond. In a statement released on Friday, October 23, Meghan expressed deep distress, noting that a letter sent to the Metropolitan Police in 2018 had previously made 'troubling and disturbing allegations' against her father.

She revealed that her decision to deny her father contact with Archie and Lilibet was made specifically 'to protect them,' trusting that authorities were investigating the same issues for other families. 'Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served,' she said. Thomas Sr. denies the claims, calling them 'bulls***' and 'lies,' and insists he never received a letter from Meghan in 2025 alerting him to these past accusations.
