The Spin

Record Store Day is celebrating the resurgence of physical media, highlighting a diverse mix of legacy rock icons and modern pop phenoms to drive independent retail traffic this Thanksgiving weekend.

The Tea

Insiders whisper that the 'Wicked' boxed set is the true battleground. With only 3,000 copies pressed, expect physical altercations in line before dawn. Also, is Noah Kahan’s 10,000-copy run enough to satisfy the stans, or will scalpers own the internet again? The 'KPop Demon Hunters' splatter vinyl is already causing pre-emptive meltdowns.

The Receipts

Noah Kahan’s 'The Last of the Bugs' EP is limited to 10,000 copies. His 7-inch 'Draw You Out' is from 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.' Bruce Springsteen’s 'Live at Tower Theater Philly 1975' offers 14,500 vinyl copies. Prince’s '3121 Las Vegas Live' is limited to 9,400 units. Billy Joel’s 'Billy Joel Tonight' is limited to 4,600 copies.

The Last Byte

If you aren't camping out with a sleeping bag and a credit card limit raised to 'emergency,' you won't be getting these exclusives. The scalpers are already sharpening their knives.

The receipts are in, and they are expensive. Record Store Day has officially unveiled the lineup for Black Friday 2026, and it is a masterclass in manufactured scarcity. We are talking about 185 exclusive titles hitting the bins the morning after Thanksgiving.

While the PR team wants you to focus on the "growing number of CDs" because apparently, that is the kids’ new fad, let’s be real: this is a war for colored vinyl supremacy. From "organic earth brown" to "red and yellow splatter," the aesthetic fetishization of plastic is in full swing, but the drama lies in the numbers. Noah Kahan is the undeniable king of this hill, and he knows it.

He has achieved the rare feat of having two albums in the top 10 concurrently, but this release is designed to push him to three. His EP, "The Last of the Bugs," is limited to just 10,000 copies. It features four bonus tracks from "The Great Divide," including the stadium staple "Orbiter." But wait, there is more chaos: Kahan is also dropping a 7-inch single of "Draw You Out" from "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," pressed on "porcelain powder" vinyl.

If you thought the digital era killed the scarcity mindset, Kahan is here to prove you wrong with a double-barreled assault on your wallet. Then there is the legacy bait. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are releasing "Live at Tower Theater Philly 1975," recorded on New Year’s Eve in the wake of "Born to Run." It is a 4-LP set limited to 14,500 copies, featuring 18 songs, including a cover of "Quarter to Three" that gets its own entire side.

Prince fans, brace yourselves for "3121 Las Vegas Live," a two-hour-plus set from his 2007 residency, available on Crystal Blue Caraçao vinyl with only 9,400 copies in existence. It includes a guest appearance by Mavis Staples. These are not just records; they are historical artifacts priced to make you cry.

The modern pop contingent is not sitting idle. Katseye is releasing "KATSEYE: The Dance Breaks" on yellow vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies, complete with randomly selected unique photocards—because apparently, we are now collecting K-pop style trinkets in the US too. Sombr, who feels like he just arrived but has been around since 2023, is finally pressing his debut EP "In Another Life" on silver vinyl, limited to 7,500 copies.

The "Tea" is hot this year because the scarcity is weaponized. The "Wicked + Wicked: For Good" boxed set combines two previous hard-to-get soundtracks into just 3,000 copies on pink and green vinyl. Insiders say you might as well not bother showing up if you aren't in line by Thanksgiving night.

Similarly, the "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack is limited to 10,000 copies on "Derpy Sussie splatter" vinyl, featuring exclusive art and holographic inserts that collectors are already trading for. Billy Joel is also in the mix with "Billy Joel Tonight," a 2-LP set limited to 4,600 copies, capturing his first television special from 1976. Victoria Monet’s twin EPs are being combined on brown and tan galaxy vinyl, but with only 1,500 copies pressed, good luck.

And for the hip-hop heads who feel ignored by RSD? Playboi Carti is dropping "Music – Sorry 4 Da Wait" on red vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies. The lines are forming now. Do not say Tea-Rex didn’t warn you.
