The Spin

The team frames this as a playful, avant-garde homage to his co-star and the film’s quirky narrative, positioning Skarsgård as a risk-taker who understands the assignment of weird cinema.

The Tea

Insiders say the 'extraordinary fake nipples' headline from earlier this week overshadowed the actual outfit. The internet is debating whether the button-and-ribbon border on the photo was a genius collage technique or a craft project gone wrong.

The Receipts

Skarsgård wore a black long-sleeve top with a photo of Colman over his chest on Oct. 20 in LA. He also wore clear plastic Saint Laurent 'O. Fan' shoes at the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 8, designed to show off feet.

The Last Byte

It’s bold, it’s bizarre, and it’s definitely not the safe bet we’ve come to expect from Hollywood premieres. Skarsgård is treating the red carpet like his own personal mood board.

Alexander Skarsgård is not here to play by the traditional rules of red carpet dressing, and his latest choice for the Los Angeles premiere of Wicker on October 20 proves it. The 50-year-old actor stepped out in a black long-sleeve top that featured a printed photo of his co-star, Olivia Colman, placed directly over his chest. But this wasn’t just a casual t-shirt drop; the image was meticulously personalized with a border made of buttons and ribbons, turning a standard garment into a piece of wearable collage art.

It’s a look that demands attention, forcing passersby to engage with the literal face of his scene partner while he poses for photographers. The rest of the ensemble leaned into a similar eclectic energy, pairing the top with a multicolored kilt, a black belt, black dress shoes, and matching socks. It’s a silhouette that feels deliberately disjointed, yet cohesive in its commitment to the absurd.

Colman herself, who wore a purple maxi skirt and red button-down shirt, seemed genuinely amused by the tribute. Sources at the event reported that the Oscar winner was seen pointing at the image on Skarsgård’s chest and laughing as the two posed together, suggesting that the prank—or fashion statement—landed exactly as intended among the cast. This isn’t the first time Skarsgård has used his wardrobe to tease the erotic undertones of Wicker.

Earlier this month, on October 8, he attended the BFI London Film Festival screening wearing clear plastic shoes by Saint Laurent. Corrado De Biase, the brand’s freelance design director of shoes, told Women's Wear Daily on October 5 that the 'O. Fan' shoes were a joke about men showing their feet, nodding to the OnlyFans obsession within the gay community.

"Everyone knows that’s the new obsession of gay communities, to show their feet on OnlyFans," De Biase said. "So why not celebrate this?" The choice was a transparent nod to the film’s plot, which involves a fisherwoman commissioning a basketmaker to weave her a husband with extraordinary bedroom abilities. While the fashion choices are getting the headlines, the physical transformation for the role remains the core of the project.

Skarsgård revealed in an October 15 interview with E! News that he had only seen photos of his straw-covered 'Wicker Husband' costume for nearly a year before filming. It wasn’t until two weeks prior to cameras rolling that he actually put it on.

"It was amazing," the Emmy winner admitted. "But to put it on and to feel the weight of it, and to kind of see how that informed the way I move, it was tremendously informative." With Wicker opening in select theaters on October 23, it’s clear that Skarsgård is willing to go to extreme lengths—both in costume and on the carpet—to sell the movie’s unconventional love story.
