The project is framed as a nostalgic reunion and a genre experiment, with Taurani citing the chance to 'recreate that magic' from past successes and Hashmi emphasizing music that is 'deeply romantic, haunting and rooted by emotion.'
The announcement centers on production logistics and creative credits rather than strategic pivots. Taurani expressed excitement about collaborating with Sunny Khanna and Vikram Khakhar, while Hashmi described the reunion with Taurani as 'serendipitous.'
Tips Films produced Hashmi's debut 'Footpath.' 'Taskaree' topped Netflix’s global non-English TV chart for the week of Jan. 12–18. 'Rooh' is slated for a 2027 theatrical release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
A full-circle moment for two Bollywood heavyweights, 'Rooh' aims to blend horror and romance with a soundtrack integral to the plot, arriving in theaters in 2027.
Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming musical horror film “Rooh” has officially added Tips Films and Tips Music to its producing team, marking a significant reunion with producer Kumar Taurani. The deal comes ahead of a 2027 theatrical release across the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu markets. This partnership reconnects the actor with Taurani, whose company, Tips Films, produced Hashmi’s very first film, “Footpath.” Directed by Mayank Sharma from a screenplay he co-wrote with Vishal Kapoor, “Rooh” mixes horror with romance and builds its songs directly into the plot.
Taurani described the association as holding special meaning due to their history. “Over the years we have had many memorable successes across several films and with ‘Rooh’ we are excited to recreate that magic once again,” Taurani said. He also noted his excitement about collaborating with Sunny Khanna and Vikram Khakhar, adding that the team “look forward to bringing the compelling experience of a theatrical film back to the audiences.” The film is a Vicked Films production, with Taurani, Girissh Kumar, Vikram Khakhar, and Sunny Khanna serving as producers and Vikas Sahni as co-producer.
The soundtrack will be released on Tips Music. Hashmi has previously led Hindi-language horror films including “Raaz: The Mystery Continues,” “Raaz 3: The Third Dimension,” and “Ek Thi Daayan.” Songs from his movies have often outgrown the films they came from. Earlier this year, Hashmi played a customs officer in “Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web,” Neeraj Pandey’s crime series for Netflix.
The show premiered on Jan. 14 in Hindi, with dubbed Tamil, Telugu, and English versions, and topped Netflix’s global non-English TV chart for the week of Jan. 12–18. Hashmi described working with Taurani on this new project as “serendipitous.” “Music has always been an integral part of how audiences connect with my films. With ‘Rooh,’ we want music that captures the soul of the film, which is deeply romantic, haunting and rooted by emotion,” he said.
Vikram Khakhar, of Vicked Films Productions, described “Rooh” as a very special project for his company and called the arrival of Tips Films and Tips Music a major step. “We are collectively excited to bring an immersive and memorable horror experience to audiences in theaters in 2027,” Khakhar said. Sunny Khanna noted that Taurani and Kumar’s track record in both film and music made the partnership particularly exciting for a project where music plays a central role. “With this partnership, we look forward to taking ‘Rooh’ to audiences across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu markets,” Khanna said.
