Pooh’s legal team argues he is entitled to the presumption of innocence and that the isolation is causing severe mental health deterioration without proper justification.
Insiders suggest the protection excuse is thin, noting that no specific threat has been identified despite the rapper being held in a rural Texas facility for months.
Filed Oct. 15: Lawyers cite heightened anxiety and difficulty sleeping. The alleged incident involved an AK-style pistol and occurred in January in Dallas.
Whether this is genuine psychological harm or a strategic play for better holding conditions, Pooh Shiesty is making noise from behind bars.
The drama surrounding Pooh Shiesty’s federal case has taken a grim turn. On Thursday, October 15, the rapper’s attorneys filed an emergency motion with a federal judge, claiming that their client is being subjected to near-total solitary confinement for 23 hours a day at a rural Texas jail. The filing, obtained by Billboard, argues that this treatment is occurring without any clear justification while Shiesty awaits trial on charges stemming from a violent confrontation with hip-hop heavyweight Gucci Mane.
The lawyers assert that this isolation is posing severe psychological risks, citing increasing anxiety and sleep difficulties for the artist born Lontrell Williams Jr. According to the motion, the only explanation provided by jail officials for the isolation is a vague statement that it is for Shiesty’s own protection. His legal team is pushing back hard, noting that he has not been told who or what specifically poses a threat to him.
They argue that confining him to his cell for nearly the entire day is unnecessary and punitive, especially since he remains under the legal presumption of innocence. The filing highlights that he has not been convicted of any offense in this case, yet his conditions are being treated as if he has, including limited family visiting hours. The underlying charges are serious and sensational.
Prosecutors allege that in January, Shiesty lured Gucci Mane to what the veteran rapper believed was a standard business meeting in Dallas. Instead, Mane was confronted by an armed Shiesty, who allegedly held an AK-style pistol on him. The situation escalated into an armed robbery and kidnapping, where Mane was reportedly forced at gunpoint to state on camera that he was releasing Shiesty from their record deal with 1017 Records.
During the altercation, Shiesty allegedly robbed Mane of his wedding ring, Rolex watches, and cash. Shiesty was arrested in April alongside his father, Lontrell Williams Sr., and rapper Big30 (Rodney Lamont Wright Jr.). The trial is tentatively scheduled for February, and the stakes are incredibly high, with a potential sentence ranging from 30 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors have characterized the incident not as a business dispute, but as an act where defendants resorted to violence and intimidation to achieve their purported business objectives. As the legal battle continues, the question remains whether this solitary confinement is a legitimate safety measure or a tactic to pressure the defendant before his day in court.
